Connecting Ghassan Kanafani’s reflections on Palestinian existence as a dwelling in “a world not ours” to Battaile’s political vision of “brining down into the world” the rigid, transcendent, forms of life reproduced by sovereignty¹; Abdaljawad Omar’s thinking critically draws from a tradition of pariah politics—a politics lived at the cross-roads of exile, abjection, emplacement and revolt. Confronting Arendt’s crippling injunction for the pariah to sacrifice its belongings to the resistance in order to “appear” in the sanctified realm of a common worldliness; Omar’s letter for Dabartis is an appeal to stand with a movement that defies commensuration through the boundless affects of love, hatred, and militant action.  


The letter, written July 2025, has since been translated into Spanish by Communis Press², as well as being made into a print edition in Athens, February 2026. The graphic is inspired by Zakaria Zubeidi’s reversal of the popular allegory of Saint George and the dragon.³ As a fugitive in Palestine, Zubeidi identifies with the pariah dragon over the magisterial, virtuous, authority of George. The print edition also includes Arendt’s letter to Baldwin, which in part prompted Omar’s thinking here.
